The mechanical properties of forged parts are higher than those produced on a hammer; the productivity is high; metal loss is minimal; the forging die on the hammer consists of two parts, the upper and lower die, while the horizontal machine consists of three parts: the punch and the two halves of the die pad, making it possible to forge parts that cannot be manufactured with the hammer die; dimensions are accurate, and the surface is smooth.
Key design points for forged parts on a horizontal press: after upsetting, the forged part should not have recesses that hinder the separation of the forging die; there should be a slope; there should be rounded corners; avoid thin neck sections in the longitudinal cross-section, as they hinder metal flow; avoid recesses in the middle and conical shapes at the tail; for flanged shafts, when the length is 10-12 times the diameter, the flange should not exceed the volume of the shaft; the wall thickness of forged parts with holes should not be less than 0.15 times the diameter.
