Common reasons for flange leakage

2023-03-03

Misalignment refers to the situation where the pipe and flange are aligned straight, but the two flanges are not concentric, causing the surrounding bolts to not easily enter the bolt holes. Some may choose to enlarge the holes or use smaller bolts, but this will reduce the clamping force of the flange.

Common reasons for flange leakage:

1. Misalignment: Misalignment refers to the situation where the pipe and flange are not aligned straight, causing the surrounding bolts to not fit easily into the bolt holes due to the two flanges being off-center. Some may choose to use oversized holes or smaller bolts, but this will reduce the clamping force of the flange.

2. Offset: Offset means that the pipe and flange are not in a vertical position, and the flange faces are not parallel and off-center. If the internal medium pressure exceeds the load pressure of the gasket, leakage will occur.

3. Corrosion: Long-term corrosion of the gasket by corrosive media can cause chemical changes in the gasket, making it soft and losing its clamping force.

4. Misdrilled holes: Misdrilled holes are relatively easy to understand, where the pipe and flange are concentric, but the distance between the corresponding bolt holes of the two flanges is too large, causing stress on the bolts. Over time, this can lead to the bolts breaking, resulting in seal failure.

How to improve the hardness of carbon steel hot-pressed elbows

Reheat the workpiece to 100-150℃ and maintain for 5-20 hours. This treatment, known as aging, is used to stabilize the quality of precision components. Aging treatment of steel components under low temperature or dynamic load conditions is particularly important to eliminate residual stress and stabilize the organization and dimensions of hot-pressed elbows.

What are the reasons for the price differences in stainless steel flanges?

The production processes of stainless steel flanges are different: Currently, the production processes of stainless steel flanges are divided into gas-cut flanges, spliced steel plate flanges, rolled steel plate flanges, forged flanges, and long high-diameter flanges formed by splicing flanges and cylinders. Among these, the raw material costs and expenses for forged flanges are the highest.

Characteristics of stainless steel flange forging equipment and applications

The mechanical properties of forgings produced by forging machines are higher than those produced by hammers; the production rate is high; metal loss is minimal; the forging die on the hammer consists of two parts, while the horizontal machine is composed of three parts: a punch and a die made of two halves, which makes it possible to forge parts that cannot be manufactured by hammer forging; dimensions are accurate and the surface is smooth.
